Wieb Zigtema (born Alkmaar, The Netherlands, 14 November 1956) is a Dutch musician and songwriter, perhaps best known for his years with Dutch punk/new wave/rock & roll outfit The Rousers. His début album under his own name was released in 2012.
Zigtema joined The Rousers (from Broek Op Langedijk, The Netherlands) in 1979. He played guitar and shared vocal duties with frontman, Cock de Jong, and released two albums with the band, including the Dutch cult classic A Treat of New Beat (1980).
The Rousers folded in 1981, but Zigtema soon returned as frontman of The Thought, who released self-titled LPs in 1982 and 1984. After the 1986 demise of The Thought, Zigtema resurfaced, without much commercial success, in Shoot The Moon (1987-1996) and an Emily Dickinson-inspired folk project called The Butterfly Clan (2002-2006).
After years of absence the Excelsior Recordings indie label released Wieb Zigtema's solo début album, The Willows Weep, in March 2012. It was recorded with the help of guest stars and label mates such as Tim Knol and Anne Soldaat. The album is dedicated to the memory of The Rousers frontman, Cock de Jong, who passed away at the age of 55 in October 2011.
A mini solo album, The Years, came out in 2017.
As of 2013 Zigtema also records and performs with his own four-piece rock band: Zigtema. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
