The Gregory Brothers are an American musical quartet specialising in comedy music and auto-tuning recorded speech through their YouTube channel Schmoyoho (/ʃmoʊˈjoʊhoʊ/). They gained attention with songs such as "Chrissy Wake Up" and "It's Corn" in 2022, which were noted for their viral popularity. Their early work includes the "Winning" song from the Songify the News series (formerly Auto-Tune the News), which won a 2012 Comedy Award, and the "Bed Intruder Song," which received over 141 million views on YouTube and entered the Billboard Hot 100. They have also produced songs parodying the US presidential debates, including "Who's It Gonna Be?" with Weird Al Yankovic, "The Last Fight" with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and "They're Eating the Dogs," also featuring Gordon-Levitt.
The group consists of Michael Gregory (drums and keyboards), Andrew Rose Gregory (guitar and bass), Evan Gregory (keyboards), and Sarah Fullen (guitar and bass), who joined the band after moving to Brooklyn, New York, in the mid-2000s. The band was formed in 2007, with all members providing vocals, often accompanying the "songified" subjects of their videos. By March 2017, their Schmoyoho channel had reached three million subscribers, and they released a "mega-mashup" summarising their work.
The Gregory Brothers first gained recognition with the Auto-Tune the News series, rebranded in 2011 as Songify the News, in which recorded voices of politicians, news anchors, and public figures were digitally manipulated to conform to a melody. Their video "Bed Intruder Song" in 2010, featuring an interview with Kelly and Antoine Dodson, was viewed approximately 50 million times in six months and became the most-viewed non-music video on YouTube that year, reaching over 150 million views in later years. Following this, the group produced a mixture of political and non-political videos, expanding the series with Songify This and other independent videos.
Several of their videos have achieved high view counts, including "THE MUFFIN SONG (asdfmovie feat. Schmoyoho)" (over 210 million views), "Songify This - Bed Intruder Song" (148 million views), and "All The Way - Jacksepticeye Songify Remix by Schmoyoho" (100 million views). Other notable videos include "Jabba the Hutt - sung by PewDiePie," "Songify This - Winning - A Song by Charlie Sheen," "Songify This - DOUBLE RAINBOW SONG!!," and "Songify This - Can't Hug Every Cat - a song about loving cats." The group also retroactively applied the "Songify This" branding to certain previously independent videos.
In 2011, The Gregory Brothers created a musical segment for the 83rd Academy Awards, auto-tuning portions of the films "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1," "Toy Story 3," "The Social Network," and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." The segment earned a nomination for a 2011 Emmy Award in the category "Outstanding Short-Form Picture Editing."
In July 2010, they released an auto-tuned version of the viral "Double Rainbow" video, featuring Paul Vasquez at Yosemite National Park. All earnings from this remix were pledged to Vasquez and Yosemite.
In December 2021, the group took over the podcast Punch Up the Jam from Headgum, which ran until December 2022. Read more on Last.fm.
