Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (born 24 October 1989), known online as PewDiePie, is a Swedish YouTuber primarily recognised for his gaming videos. He has become one of the most prominent content creators on YouTube and is widely regarded as a figurehead for the platform, particularly within the gaming genre.
Kjellberg was born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden. He created his YouTube channel, "PewDiePie", in 2010, initially posting Let's Play videos of horror and action games. His channel grew rapidly, becoming one of the fastest-growing on the platform in 2012 and 2013. On 15 August 2013, it became the most-subscribed channel on YouTube, and from 29 December 2014 to 14 February 2017, it was also the most-viewed. Following this, Kjellberg diversified his content to include vlogs, comedy shorts, formatted shows, and music videos. He also starred in a reality web series produced by YouTube as part of its subscription service relaunch.
Kjellberg’s content has been polarising, attracting both widespread popularity and controversy. In 2017, a Wall Street Journal article alleged that some of his videos contained antisemitic content, prompting media scrutiny and leading some companies to end business partnerships with him. Kjellberg acknowledged that some content was inappropriate but defended it as humour taken out of context and criticised aspects of the reporting.
In late 2018 and early 2019, Kjellberg was involved in a high-profile competition with the Indian record label T-Series over subscriber counts; the label eventually overtook his channel. Following this, he returned to gaming content, particularly focusing on "Minecraft", achieving record viewership. In the 2020s, he reduced his online presence, taking frequent breaks and moving to Japan with his wife, Italian Internet personality Marzia. He has since semi-retired from YouTube, producing content less regularly and focusing on personal interests and family life. His channel continues to rank among the most-subscribed and viewed on the platform, with over 110 million subscribers and more than 29 billion views.
Kjellberg is considered a pioneer and ambassador of YouTube culture, particularly in gaming, and has been influential on broader Internet culture. His videos have been noted to increase sales for the games he plays, especially independently developed titles, and he has used his platform to support charitable causes. While some media outlets have associated him with controversial or hateful content, others have described such claims as unfair. In 2016, Time magazine named Kjellberg one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Read more on Last.fm.
