The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (correct tag: 東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団) claims to be the oldest classical orchestra in Japan, having been founded in Nagoya in 1911. It moved to Tokyo in 1938 and has some 166 members as of 2005.
From 1991 to 1996, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed a series of 5 concerts known as the Orchestral Game Concert. In the concert they performed several songs from videogames of several different series from the NES, SNES and Gameboy.
The orchestra plays at Orchard Hall, part of the Bunkamura shopping and entertainment complex in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra also made a live recording of an orchestral concert of arranged video game music from the Final Fantasy video game series. The album, named 20020220 music from FINAL FANTASY contains a selection of musical tracks from the games and it was first released on May 9, 2002, by DigiCube, and subsequently re-released on July 22, 2004, by Square Enix. <a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Tokyo+Philharmonic+Orchestra">Read more on Last.fm</a>.
