There are at least two bands under the name "The Stress":
1) Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, The Stress draws heavily from 60’s Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae, as well as from influences ranging from American soul to British-invasion creating a unique and refreshing style. The combined songwriting powers of the group, as well as their instrumental and vocal prowess, shine through in their highly original, yet familiar sound. Raised on the sloganeering of such seminal groups as The Clash, the band takes pride in their ability to write songs that encompass both extremely personal topics, as well as the sociopolitical events that define all of our lives.
The Stress formed through a series of lucky coincidences in the winter of 2007 and after a period of writing and developing their sound, the band released the E.P. Muk! Muk! in June 2009.
2) The Stress were one of the first greek punk rock groups who appeared initially in 1981-82. During summer 1982 they participated in one of the first punk concerts which took place in Gizi neighbourhood.
The members of the band were: Fragiskos Ninos (vocals), Louis Kontolis (guitar), Kostas Dirvas (bass), Nickos Polihronopoulos (percussion). Various musicians played also as members of the band, such as Giannis Papakostas (vocals), Giannis Sialakas (vocals), Giannis Karidis (percussion), Spiros Mandelos (guitar) and Tom Bouzianis. After the split of Stress two former members (Fragiskos Ninos and Nikos Polihronopoulos) formed Panx Romana, another greek punk rock band.
In 1984 they participated in the greek punk rock collection "Diataraksi kinis isihias" (Common peace disturbance) with the tracks "Dikeoma sti zoi" (Right to life) and "Anhos" (Anxiety). In 1987 their lp entitled "O ihos tis anasfalias" (The sound of insecurity) came out only in 300 copies, which were immediately sold out. Furthermore in 1992 their second lp came out, in which there were live songs and demo tapes (1983-1985).
The Stress are a highly influential group for many greek punk rock bands. They combined sociopolitical lyrics with real punk rock sound and they created songs that describe many events that took place in the 80s. Their albums "O ihos tis anasfalias" 1 and 2 ("The Sound Of Insecurity" 1 and 2) reflect the insecurity of a whole generation and they still sound extremely current.
3) The Stress is an indie-dance DJ who is a member of the Dutch Les Animaux collective.
