THE POSSUM TROT ORCHESTRA is an American roots music ensemble from Fort Wayne, Indiana consisting of SUSIE SURACI (vocals, guitar & keyboards), JOHN MINTON (vocals, guitar, banjo, accordion, keyboards & lap steel), ROB SURACI (vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards & drums & percussion), and DAVE KARTHOLL (mandolin). With Susie and John providing the songs, the Possums range across the American tradition, from folk, country and roots-rock to bluegrass and blues. Susan Taylor Suraci (sir-Rah-chee) migrated to Indiana from Maryland. Besides making music, she's an accomplished painter who regularly exhibits in and around Fort Wayne. Susie’s husband Rob is a Washington, DC native who has worked as a recording engineer in New York City and elsewhere. He not only plays guitars (and just about anything else he touches) but currently builds them commercially. Kindled in his hometown of Houston, Texas, John’s musical activities also now spill over into his day job as a professor of folklore at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he teaches courses on American folk and popular music. He has published widely on the subject with academic journals and presses. Dave, the only Indiana native in the group, ranks among the area's most in-demand instrumentalists, regularly recording and performing with a half-dozen groups. Having played together informally for years, Susie, John, Rob & Dave came together as the Possum Trot Orchestra in 2004, performing at local coffeehouses, clubs, and festivals. The Possums also contributed to John’s 2004 solo release, GOING BACK TO VICKSBURG (Southern Can), but it was only in the fall of 2005 that they released their first album as PTO—the critically acclaimed THE POSSUM TROT ORCHESTRA (Southern Can). They recorded the follow-up—HARBOR ROAD (Southern Can)—in the summer and fall of 2006, releasing it at year's end. It is also garnering much-welcomed airplay and glowing reviews across the U.S. and abroad. Read more on Last.fm.
