The Occasional Flickers began as the solo project of Giorgos Bouras in Athens, Greece. With the help of some good friends they recorded their first 7″ single rain until monday 7", which was released in early 2003.
After a long break, their debut album scattered songs recorded at Bouras’ bedroom was completed in 2006 and released in 2007 by the Peruvian indiepop label Plastilina Records. Even though it was awkwardly performed and recorded, scattered songs included some of their best songs. In 2007, they also released the limited edition 3” CD single When The Sky Looks So Gray for Miami-based Cloudberry Records which has been long sold out.
Soon after moving to Edinburgh, Scotland, the Flickers were augmented to a six-piece including members of local bands eagleowl, Japanese War Effort, My Tiny Robots, Conquering Animal Sound and Long Long Walk Home. They started working on their second album Home Is A Four-Letter Word in 2008 and completed it in 2010. The sound of Home Is A Four-Letter Word is largely a result of the joint effort of the band and all the musicians who collaborated with them (with Sergios Voudris of The Voyage Limpid Sound contributing so much to the album that he had to be listed as a regular band member even though he lives in a different country…). The abundance of great musicians to work with gave Bouras the chance to expand the instrumentation of his songs and create a more eclectic sound with influences from folk, country and 60s psych pop to pretty much everything the band has liked throughout the years.
The current line up of the group is Panayotis Baras (drums), Giorgos Bouras (guitar, vocals) and Fraser Hughes (bass).
