The Jellyheads are a fusion of acoustic, psychedelic, jazz, dub, post-rock and ambient electronic influences, convening at irregular intervals since meeting in Guildford in 1993. Their unique and by turns upbeat, ethereal, surreal, disturbing and stone-dead downbeat music is represented on their debut album Filthy Mechanoid, released in the summer of 2008.
Live gigs have included Frankstock (Norfolk's best kept festival secret), a floating fireworks party on the Thames and the Firegathering festival in Surrey. Radio play includes Rick Wakeman's show on Planet Rock and Stuart Maconie's Freakzone on BBC 6Music.
A regular lineup of drums, bass, guitar and keyboard is complemented by strings, orchestral percussion, ancient analogue synthesisers, experimental sound design software, vocoders, tape loops, samplers, digeridoo, drainpipes, kitchen utensils and microphones put where microphones really shouldn't go. They claim to sound "a bit like The Orb, Orbital, Roy Orbison, Ozric Tentacles, Mogwai, Pink Floyd, The Cheeky Girls, The Flaming Lips, Led Zeppelin, Gong, Super Furry Animals and Steve Reich. Some of these are not true."
The group members also perform in other musical outfits ranging from modern jazz to Balkan brass, and these experiences feed back into their collective music-making. Their latest release is a free download remix EP, Mr. Phosphorous vs. The Jellyheads. More remixes are in the pipeline, and the constituent parts of a second proper album are lurking on various hard drives waiting to be assembled. Read more on Last.fm.
