Munkle's unique lineup consists of Martin Kay (clarinet, bass clarinet), Julian Curwin (guitar, banjo), Sam Golding (tuba, trumpet, flute) and Danny Heifetz (drums, percussion). Their combined musical experiences include receiving ARIA awards, freelancing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and performing with such diverse artists as Monsieur Camembert, Mike Nock, Mr. Bungle, Sax Continuum, Darth Vegas, Jackie Orszaczky and The Tango Saloon. Martin Kay - clarinet, bass clarinet Julian Curwin - guitar, banjo Sam Golding - tuba, trumpet, flute Danny Heifetz - drums, percussion The Cahoots (2005): "The music of Munkle could loosely be described as "chamber jazz", but with many other bits and pieces thrown in for good measure - the sound ranges from a funereal dirge ('Sad Mafioso Woe Song') to old-time swing ('Captain Terrific & His Pet Catfish') to the most standard of standard jazz melodies embedded in a Balkan-style romp ('All Of Me'). “The Cahoots” is made up of simple, tuneful pieces that rarely exceed the 4-minute mark, making it very accessible, even to those who would not normally listen to contemporary jazz. As a result, the appeal of Munkle has been notably diverse - apart from playing at jazz venues, they have supported avant-pop bands, played on a bill of experimental noise artists, and performed with guest singer Christa Hughes from risqué-rock band MGF." (Jazzgroove Records) Music To Dance To (2009): "Jazzgroove Records is proud to announce the release of "Music To Dance To", the second album from Sydney band The Fantastic Terrific Munkle. As the title suggests, this could be seen as dance music, from swinging romps to delicate waltzes. There's also a bit of bluesy goodness, music from other lands, and seemingly from other planets, all filtered through the unique Munkle lineup. The members’ past and present musical adventures include playing with such diverse acts as Monsieur Camembert, Mike Nock, Secret Chiefs 3, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Darth Vegas and The Tango Saloon." (Jazzgroove Records) “...erasing the line between satire and beauty, managing to be mock-serious and rather exquisite simultaneously.” (Sydney Morning Herald) Read more on Last.fm.
