Biography
The Disco Students were a British punk/post-punk band formed in Aylesbury, England during the winter of 1978. The original line up was Simon Cheetham, Simon Clark, Richard Coles and Graham Hocking. The band released their first single on Yeah!Yeah!Yeah! Records in 1979 - 'South Africa House' / 'Kafkaesque'. The second release was an EP - 'A Boy With A Penchant For Open Neck Shirts' by this time Karl Perkins had replaced Clark. The band released their first single on Yeah!Yeah!Yeah! Records in 1979 - 'South Africa House' / 'Kafkaesque'. The second release was an EP - 'A Boy With A Penchant For Open Neck Shirts' by this time Karl Perkins had replaced Clark. 'But' a 12" EP came out in 1981, with Jon Greenough replacing Perkins. The band were dormant for a number of years until Cheetham resumed with the CD single 'Morrissey Stole All My Ideas' released in 2004. Since then there have been regular releases - 'Live In New York' (2005), 'My Black Girlfriend' (2006) and a compilation double CD 'I Beg To Differ' released in 2007. The group were included on the Rough Trade Counter Culture compilation album in 2008. In 2009 The Disco Students released a 7" vinyl single 'I Met My Girlfriend At A Friars Gig' / 'Fire At Earth Records'. Cheetham received a Friars Hero Award when the group appeared at Friars Aylesbury 40th celebrations gig in October 2009.
