Eclectic-pop: Lots of catchiness containing too many genres to file under one. Sweedish (spelled correctly) is a Northern Califronia band that’s proud to display it’s self-proclaimed format, despite the consequences. Consisting of brothers Jeremy Malander (vocals, rhythm guitar, keys) and Josh Malander (drums, backing vocals), with college friend Greg Becerra (lead guitarist, backing vocals) and recruit Joe Schewe (bass, backing vocals), Sweedish was formed in the San Francisco Bay Area during the summer of 2006. The band’s early music was an upbeat blend of pop/rock, jam, and funk influences but frequent instrumentation changes and use of 3-4 part backing vocals has gradually expanded their sound to include a variety of genres. Think smart songs, not earplugs.
In 2009, the group released their deubt EP "Life As Someone Else" which was engineered and Mixed at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco by Studio C partners Scott McDowell (Sean Hayes, Birds & Batteries, and John Vanderslice) and Jamison Durr (Josh Fix, Prince Paul, The Dead). With the success of their first release and the Summer addition of Joe Schewe on Bass guitar, Sweedish has established strong momentum for the coming year in touring and production of a 2010 LP.
"They might not be good spellers, but that sure know how to rock!" - San Francisco Chronicle
"..Sweedish, whose catchy, feel-good melodies kept the crowd alive and dancing right on into the night. A rock band of sorts, with influences ranging from Stevie Wonder to the Allman Brothers, the group's eclectic set list covered a wide range of music, all of which was rock-solid. Lead guitarist Greg Becerra's solos were nothing short of dazzling, while three-way vocal harmonies were good enough to get yours truly thinking Beach Boys." - Santa Cruz Metro Read more on Last.fm.
