Sunship Balloon is a psychedelic dream alt pop project from Dan & Tord (The Wombats, Imitating Aeroplanes and Dan The Man). They have been making music together for 15 years and after realizing that both of their hard drives were full of song ideas that needed a home they decided to make a place for them in the shape of Sunship Balloon. Named after named after the Flaming Lips tune of (nearly) the same name, and freeing them up to try out styles without the baggage of being compared to their more famous band, Sunship Balloon sees them experiment with everything from electronica to psychedelia and indie-pop to alternative rock. In terms of Sunship Balloon’s sound, there are a few inspirations – Tord notes the electronic side of Radiohead, Air’s analogue synths and Beck, while Dan drops in Gold Panda. The duo’s songs often question the impact of technology, the future of the environment, mental health and consumerism. Their first EP is made up of 5 songs written & produced by Dan & Tord and mixed by the wonderful John Congleton (St. Vincent, Alvvays etc).
