Sulkhan Nasidze (Tbilissi, 17.03.1927, Tbilissi, 21.09.1996 ) was a Georgian composer and teacher. Nasidze graduated from the Conservatoire of Tbilisi in the piano class of A. Svanidze, and then in 1955 in the composition class of I. Tuskia. From 1963 to the end of his life he taught polyphony and composition there in the department of composition, occupying the post of teacher (from 1963) assistant professor (from 1972), professor (from 1979). From 1969-74 he was dean of the faculty of theory and composition, and in 1979 he was appointed head of the department of the composition at the Conservatoire of Tbilisi. At the same time, in 1974 Nasidze was invited to become artistic director of the Georgian State Philharmonia. He was involved in the activities of the Georgian Union of Composres, where he was elected secretary (1962, 1979), and chairman of the board (1992). Nasidze's works have been broadcast on European radio channels, and have been included in the Programme of prestigious festivals and concert series. He was awarded the titel Honoured Art worker of Georgia (1966), laureate of the Shota Rustaveli State Prize of the Georgian SSR (1973), People's Artist of Georgia (1979), and Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1986).
