Slovenian were an electro punk-rock band active in between 1988 and 2001. Members were Franek Markošek - guitar, Robert Ceglar - saxophone, Tomaž Vučer - bass (1988-1989), Sergej Steblovnik - vocals & programming, Vasja Ocvirk - vocals & programming, Scheet (ex Afflict) - bass (1989-1990), Aleš Uratnik (ex Epidemic Zone, Non Finire Mai) - bass (1994-1997), Iztok Mravlje (ex Phone Box Vandals, Semprini) - bass (from 1997). he Strelnikoff Mary of Help of Brezje controversy or the Strelnikoff Affair (Slovene: Afera Strelnikoff) began after a depiction of Mary of Help of Brezje holding a rat instead of Jesus was published by the Slovenian music group Strelnikoff on the cover of their 1998 album Bitchcraft. The album was made in protest of the official views of the Roman Catholic Church in Slovenia and the statements of some of its highest representatives on the subject of abortion. The first to condemn this depiction was Franc Rode, who was the Bishop of Ljubljana at the time. This was followed by general public outcry and expressions of the inappropriateness of the misuse of one of the most known symbols of Slovenian Catholicism. The State Attorney's Office received 3,867 public protests and 1,208 requests for indictment. These were united in one that was at first rebuffed before the Celje District Court. However, the state prosecutor Elizabeta Gyorkos filled a complaint. The group members also received phone calls and threats. In August 2003, the indictment was refused by the Ljubljana Higher Court as well. In accordance with the Constitution of Slovenia and the Slovenian law, the court concluded that the authors were "tasteless in their artistic project, however they did not surpass the boundary of allowed at all." --- Bio in croatian: Strelnikoff!!! – jugoslovenski ministry, slovenački antihristi, celjski huligani… Početak se vezuje za osmi mesec 1988. godine kada je oformljena prva postava benda: Franek Markošek (gitara), Robert Ceglar (saksofon), Tomaž Vučer (bas), Sergej Steblovnik (vokal & programiranje) i Vasja Ocvirk (vokal & programiranje). Već idućeg meseca eto koncerta u Holandiji, a nakon toga po Sloveniji, u Zagrebu i Beogradu, ali i mini turneja po Švajcarskoj. Tri meseca bez basiste i krajem 1989. im se pridružuje basista Scheet iz holandskog benda Afflict. Kaseta za zagrebačkog izdavača Beyoop (naziv etikete) Mama ti je… u živo i u mrtvo. Učešće na nekoliko kompilacija, koncerti (Austrija, Nemačka, Italija…) i u proleće 1990. izdaju 12″ EP sa 6 pesama On 45. Za Beyoop se pojavljuje singl (obrada Too Drunk To Fuck) i onda sledi (ponovo u formi kvarteta bez basiste) nastup na Omladinskom festivalu u Subotici. Ono što sledi su koncerti, kompilacije, turneje, CD Heavy Mentally Retarded za švajcarski Rec Rec, pa ponovo koncerti, EP CD Hojladrija, svinjarija, diareja, gonoreja sa Markom Breceljem… Promena basiste i početkom 1998. objavljuju CD Bitchcraft koji izaziva negodovanje katoličke crkve zbog omota (vidi desno). Prašina se diže na sve strane, donosi se sudska odluka o zapleni kompletnog tiraža albuma, ali se na kraju ne sprovodi. Bizaran detalj je, pored anonimnih telefonskih i pismenih pretnji, i mrtav pacov kojeg je grupa primila na adresu kluba gde je promovisala album. Steblovniku i Ocvirku (pevači) početkom 2000. godine iz Okružnog suda stiže optužnica (po članu 299. KZ Republike Slovenije) za nasilničko ponašanje koju je pola godine pre toga podigla Državni tužilac Elizabet Györkös. Predviđena kazna – tri godine zatvora. Do kraja godine Strelnikoff završavaju snimanje materijala za novi album Sick, Sick, Sick! sa devet pesama. U međuvremenu grupu napuštaju Steblovnik i gitarista Markošek, a materijal za Sick, Sick, Sick! čeka finalni mix. Ocvirk okuplja novu postavu radi promocije albuma, ali se tome žestoko protivi Steblovnik zahtevajući autorski deo honorara i na kraju albuma – n-e-m-a!
