Stefan Tortos is a music composer, who also produces under Zen Garden. Born 1979 in Athens, he taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 10. At 15 he started playing the electric guitar for 'Vice Human' and he contributed to their live shows and albums. Between 1995 & 1998, he played for several groups such as Glower, Agnoun, On-Off and some others. Since 2001, he has worked with samplers, synthesizers, percussion, strings & the piano. In 2003, Stefanos orchestrated and produced 'Mayas to the Atlantis' for Tm Baton Kee. Between 2004 & 2006, he participated in the IEK AKMI Music Technology competition and won a contract with PLANETWORKS, resulting in collaborations with Dj Viton, Dallas, and Mike & Stef. In 2006, he took the role of orchestration, sampling and sound design for 'Perses', a production by the National Theatre of Greece. He then toured in the Epidaurus ancient theatre, and toured around Greece and New York, playing live samples, percussion and strings. In 2006 - 2007, in collaboration with Roxani Garefalaki, he composed, orchestrated and produced the music for 'Deva', a Dance Theatre performance, directed by Silvia Macchi, of the Synergion of Arts group. Around the same time, he started collaborating with The Percussions of Taki, and the Afro-Cretan Band, doing sampling, production, playing guitar and keyboards at their live shows in open-air festivals and clubs. Also, he produced soundtracks for the production of commercials and short-films, and also offered mixing services. Ιn 2008, he composed the music for the dance theatre group Fygein Adynaton, production: “Facts and Faculties” choreographed by Natasa Aretha. In 2009 he collaborated with Takis Farazis for the short film 'Of Memory', dedicated to the work of sculptor Venia Dimitrakopoulou.
