Crafting a sound that pushes the line between elegance and aggression, Spider Rockets combines contemporary loud rock with classic rock elements. The New Jersey-based band travels the sonic spectrum from dark and seductive to energetic to angry, with a dynamic live show and scream-a-long anthems.
“Hard rock has always been our core,” says Helena Cos, the group’s singer. “Johnny and I started as a duo playing every dive bar in New Jersey and New York City and testing out our own music in between songs from AC/DC, Judas Priest, Guns n’ Roses and Metallica.” Johnny, the group’s lead guitarist adds, “it was a pretty unique setup as we had an electronic rhythm section and pumped out loud rock.” The duo soon expanded to a full lineup and started working with Brooklyn-based indie producer, Martin Bisi best known for recording important records by Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning Rockit, Helmet and White Zombie. “Flipped Off” was subsequently released in 2000 which yielded top adds at college radio. An EP, “Preview” followed and was eclipsed by “Ever After” which was picked up for North American and European distribution by Locomotive Records.
The group chose to go more homegrown on its latest release, a self-titled affair, recording at Trax East in their home state of New Jersey. With Eric Rachel manning the boards (Atreyu, Black Dahlia Murder, Hatebreed, In This Moment, Misfits, Patti Smith Group, Senses Fail), the group has issued unquestionably its strongest release to date – from both a compositional and performance standpoint. Johnny notes “I think the quality of the recording and the music on this CD has taken us to a new place as a band and I’m very excited about it.”
Touring nationally, Spider Rockets has been building a name for itself. The group’s latest tours include a run with Pop Evil during the Winter through Spring 2010, dates on The Vans Warped Tour and a Fall 2010 tour with Framing Hanley. New music is slated for release in 2011 and Spider Rockets is aiming to up the ante.
