*Skylab was a downtempo supergroup composed of U.K. DJ Mat Ducasse, producer Howie "B" Bernstein (Howie B), Japanese recording artists Tosh and Kudo (Melon,Love T.K.O.,J.O.Y.,Major Force etc.) and vocalist Debbie Sanders. Their first album, #1, is a forgotten classic. Nominally a trip hop or 'chillout' record, it's really far more ambitious. Beats and some low-key turntablism bookend excursions into lowercase soundscapes, vintage synth manipulation, ambient, impro and dub. Howie B's production bathes everything in a warm bass glow.
