I've been an active musician and filmmaker for nearly a decade. Raised in Memphis, TN, I grew up learning grooves and a style behind great unknowns in a southern baptist church. After years of playing drums in Memphis, I had gathered quite the collection of beautifully talented musical friends. In December of 2013, I had a long-awaited kidney transplant. The years-long events leading up to that were beautiful thanks to the incredible community of Memphis artists that surrounded me. My first album, Butch Americana, is not only a snapshot of the chaos of making a living during kidney disease, but a tribute to and a great time with the spirit of Memphis community, music, film, and art. The album includes master musicians Hope Clayburn, Michael Joyner, Khari Wynn, Robert Allen Parker, Jacob Simpson, Matthew Garth, and many many others. Life comes through this music, and it is impossible to be done by one person alone, it takes a community.
