We humans are everywhere, shopping, eating, worshiping, driving, watching television, walking our dogs, sleeping, having sex, ect. Yet are we aware of the state of mind we are actually in? Do we spend all of our time thinking about the types of materials that are presented to us? Or do we just accept it in a sort of “ho hum” manner? These are questions that members of Schizothymia have addressed, pondered, and written about for years. These types of question have been a source for their music.
Schizothymia, defined as “an emotional state or temperament out of keeping with ideational content,” is an experimental, post-hardcore, alternative band from Fargo, ND. Their changing keys and tempos take an intelligence to follow, yet their music keeps the listener engaged with energetic organically flowing guitar riffs similar to the popular bands At the drive-in and Sparta. The lead guitar is accompanied by a post-rock sounding guitar with long melodies similar to Sigur Ros and a synthesizer. This combination along with the lead vocalist raspy but melodic punk style of singing is a listening enjoyment. They aspire to make music sound original, but that doesn’t have to come with the sacrifice of audience enjoyment.
