Sandra Kolstad is something quite special on the Norwegian popscene, where her experimental pop provides her an exceptional position. Her roots are in the world of classical music, trained as a pianist, giving her a technical and stylistic insight not very common in the world of popular music. But her branches have grown in exciting directions, and the last year Kolstad has impressed increasingly growing audiences both in Norway and other countries with her experimental songwriting, which adds new flavour to the concept of pop. Kolstad challenges both text- and tonalwise, tending to do the unexpected, and then the expected when you least expect it. Not afraid of neither pain nor prettiness, Kolstad keeps surprising and fascinating old and new listeners with soundscapes quite spectacular.
