Samy Sorge (born on 19 December 1977) is a German rapper and record producer from Hamburg, known professionally as Samy Deluxe. Samy Sorge was raised in Hamburg after his Sudanese father left Germany when he was two years old. He grew up with his mother’s family, and a half-sister was born shortly after his father’s departure. The family lived for several years in the district of Barmbek before moving to Eppendorf following his mother’s remarriage. He attended the Wolfgang-Borchert-Schule and completed a Realschulabschluss. He has cited his upbringing in a middle-class environment as an influence on his perspective, as well as early exposure to American hip hop, which contributed to his interest in rap music beginning in the late 1980s. In 2001, Samy Deluxe released his debut album, "Samy Deluxe", which reached number two on the German album charts. The single "Hab' gehört..." achieved moderate chart success, while "Internetional Love" did not chart. The third single, "Weck mich auf", reached number four in Germany and became the most commercially successful release from the album. Following this debut, Samy Deluxe established himself within German hip hop. In 2003, he formed the duo ASD with rapper Afrob. Their album "Wer hätte das gedacht" featured production contributions from international producers including J Dilla, Diamond D, and Waajeed. The single "Sneak Preview" charted in Germany. His second solo album, "Verdammtnochma!", was released in 2004 and reached number two on the German album charts, remaining in the top ten for several weeks. In the same year, he contributed to the German version of "Dip It Low" by Christina Milian. In 2005, Samy Deluxe represented Hamburg in the Bundesvision Song Contest with the song "Generation", finishing in ninth place. In April 2016, he released his sixth solo album, "Berühmte letzte Worte", which reached number four in the German album charts. The album included collaborations with artists such as Nena, Afrob, and Max Herre. In the same period, he appeared on the television program "Sing meinen Song" alongside Xavier Naidoo, performing the track "Haus am Mehr". In May 2019, Samy Deluxe participated in an "MTV Unplugged" performance together with Max Raabe.
