Singer-Song writer Ruth Merry grew up in Hampshire, England, Leicester and Devon, and now lives in West London. Her self-titled E.P. Ruth Merry was released in 2010. She has been influenced by early Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Kate Rusby, Patty Griffin, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, James Morrison and Tori Amos. After winning an international song writing competition (Unison) in 1998, Songlink International magazine wrote: “Ruth Merry, the youngest artist on the project …won the hearts of many of the writers with her beautiful voice and a musical sensibility that is way beyond her years”. She went on to collaborate with Burt Bacharach, Mick Fleetwood, members of The Police and R.E.M. – among many others – at song writing event Bridge to Havana in Cuba, and performed the song she co-wrote, Volvere, to 4000 people at the Karl Marx Theatre. Volveré (“I’ll be back”) was chosen as the title track for the DVD documentary of the event, which is available along with the album Bridge To Havana via Amazon. Ruth trained at the London College of Music and Media, graduating with a first-class honours degree in 2001. She has performed extensively throughout the UK from a young age, and in 2005 she supported Midge Ure on his solo tour of the UK. Her self-titled E.P. was released in 2010 – see www.ruthmerry.bandcamp.com Read more on Last.fm.
