Rudy Bennett (born The Hague, The Netherlands, 27 December 1942; real name: Rudy van den Berg) is a Dutch singer, best known as frontman of The Motions (1964-1971), one of the more succesful groups from The Hague's thriving beat scene of the 1960s. After The Motions he sang in many other projects and also released solo singles.
Van den Berg went under the artist's name Ritchie Clark in the early 1960s and founded a Shadows/Ventures-like guitar group named Ritchie Clark & The Ricochets, who were the support-act for The Rolling Stones at their legendary August 1964 show at The Hague's Kurhaus. Shortly thereafter the band decided to change their musical direction (beat!) and change their name into The Motions.
The Motions' best known hit was 1965's 'protest song', Wasted Words, written by Motions guitarist, Robbie van Leeuwen (who would leave the group in 1967 to form Shocking Blue).
Bennett's solo career started during his time with The Motions and his 1966 cover version of Tim Hardin's [track artist=How Can We Hang On To A Dream[/artist] still stands as his best known solo recording.
After The Motions Bennett sang with groups such as Musicians Union Band, Jupiter, Bennett & Bee and Terra Nera.
Rudy Bennett is still a regular performer. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
