ROOTS IN SESSION SOUNDS was found in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2000, when from one week RADYOYO radio show, playing Breakbeat music, became a multi show, playing everything between Drum’n’Bass, Breakbeat, HipHop, R’n’B, Soul, Funk, Nu Jazz, Down Tempo, Reggae, Dancehall,… The Wednesday show, under the direcion of PIER selector with selectors FU, MAHOWNEE and SHINE, was named Roots in Session and it covered all Reggae styles. The leading inspiration for the selectors and others, who helped the show to stay alive over the years, arose from visiting ROTOTOM SUNSPLASH Festival in Italy, since 1999. Every year one promo mix CD ROOTS IN SESSION is made, and is always accepted with great interest among supporters. Under the cover of RADYOYO crew, PIER, FU and TIGOR are active in organizing parties (Drum’n’Bass, Hip Hop…) with foreign artists, so desire for Reggae party became bigger and bigger. In the year 2003 the tradicional 1st of May, two day open-air gathering on Slovenian seaside began. When the radio show stopped broadcasting, a need for sharing music among people became stronger, so the first promo mix cd named KUS KUS was made and sold out in few months. It became clear that ROOTS IN SESSION is not just a sound, but also a movement, trying to represent and spread positive vibrations, thinking and philosophy, which derives from the Reggae culture itself.
