Rites of Fall is the moniker of Polish producer Bartek Kuszewski. Active since 2017, Kuszewski has quietly created a distinct sound, seamlessly blending organic electronics, dub influences, instrumental passages and deeply conceptual ideas into a vivid, narrative-driven electronic music. Whether exploring biblical motifs ('Truthsayer'), making music inspired by cosmism ('Towards the Blackest Skies'), drawing on mythology ('Floodwaters'), or setting out on ancestral excavations ('Venoms'), Kuszewski's work is characterised by slowly developing musical motifs, cinematic majesty and a mournful, often distorted bleakness. The project began by placing religious and folk music elements in new contexts, but soon something more fully-fledged, darker and heavier emerged. Drawing on a range of inspirations from industrial, bass and textural guitar music to darker shades of ambient, electronica and film scores, his works exhibit a patience of a sonic storyteller and utilise juxtapositions: of live and electronic elements, light and darkness, the past and the present. 'Venoms', his new album for Leidforschung, is set to arrive in the second half of 2023. Read more on Last.fm.
