Rosnes began learning to play the piano at the age of three, gaining an interest in jazz at high school. In 1986 she moved from Vancouver to New York, and later that year joined Joe Henderson's quartet. After a year with Wayne Shorter's quintet in 1988, in 1989 J.J. Johnson invited her to become his pianist. Rosnes has also performed with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band with Jon Faddis, the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Tribute Band, the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, and the Danish Radio Big Band. Rosnes was a 21-year member of the James Moody Quartet, performs frequently with vibist Bobby Hutcherson, and was also a founding member of the SFJAZZ Collective and toured and recorded with the band from 2004-2009. Currently, Rosnes performs frequently with the Lewis Nash Quintet and is a member of FOURSIGHT, a quartet led by legendary bassist Ron Carter.
Rosnes has released 10 albums as a leader on the Blue Note label, and has since recorded M&I Records, and the Pony Canyon label in Japan.
