Bio REMBRANDT FRERICHS - jazz pianist
Pianist and composer Rembrandt Frerichs (1977) studied at the Dutch royal conservatoire in The Hague, in New York and lived in Egypt (Cairo)for two years
Rembrandt’s passionate character and his authentic, imaginary aproach to music in various styles, make Dave Liebman say about him:
“Rembrandt is a fine young pianist, who is becoming a real jazz artist with his own sound”.
Performing on stage his attention is drawn to the unobvious and for Rembrandt adventure and spontanity in music are very important. It is exactly this adventureous way of playing, that has brought him to various international experiences and awards, like:
Finalist Deloitte Jazz Award 2007
Edison award nominee for his debut CD “ Self Portrait” 2007
2nd prize Blue Note Records jazz award (Belgium)
Pianist of the European Jazz Youth Orchestra, touring through Europe and Brazil.
Concert with Michael Brecker in 2003 (+ bootleg Live-CD recording)
“This guy sounds great!” - Michael Brecker
Rembrandt’s debut-album ’Self Portrait’ is an self composed, almost painted in sound musical document. By listening to his music you will get to know the composer, and the public appreciated this so much that the CD directly got nominated for the Edison Award in 2007
His desire for knowledge, the eagerness to broaden his artistic skills and his search for philosophical awareness made him (directly after graduating) being asked to teach at various conservatories, like Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam. Since 2007 he is the steady Jazz piano teacher at the Tilburg conservatory.
When thinking of Rembrandt’s music, one will encounter Jazz, Bach chorales, minimal music, adventure, the Middle East, a renowned velvet touch, broad colour scapes, and of exciting collaborations with fellow artists.
