Listen. Radio Control are a two person punk rock pop band from Boston, MA. They are: Kristina Otero (Drums, Vocals) & Matt(y) Studivan (Guitar, Vocals).
R/C formed in 2009, put out an EP called "Breaker Breaker 1234!" (which is now out of print) and very soon after signed to the very independent, very local, Polk Records.
For the release of their first full length, "Hot Audio," (released April 23rd, 2011) Radio Control began playing shows and writing in earnest for about a year to focus their sound and interpret their influences into a sound that kept the catchy pop nature of their earlier work while drawing on their roots in Boston punk rock of the 90’s, the sparse pop of K Records and the raw energy of Kill Rock Stars, Sympathy for the Record Industry and Third Man. As a duo, Radio Control holds nothing back, relying on their energy and passion rather than instrumental proficiency.
The goal in tracking Hot Audio with very few overdubs was to capture the energy of their live show, which is how they have built their fan base, while showcasing their lyrical tendencies. A focus on simple, common themes abound. “Do You Wanna Die” is spiritual pleading while “Beach Babies” honestly yearns for simpler times. “XOXO” espouses the confidence of love and “Money’s Not Evil” cynically stabs at the culture of college education.
As a fan once said “so it’s like really hard, but really catchy???” Yeah.
