Preverts (http://preverts.bandcamp.com/)is the garage-punk collaboration of Carl Young (instruments & engineering) & I.G. "Goat" Fraser (words, music & vocals) from Brisbane, Australia, friends and participants in the independent music scenes in Brisbane and Sydney since the 1980s. Since August 2012 they have been recording original rock songs together despite their respective garages being thousands of kilometres apart.
Young, a Sydney resident, first suggested that Fraser, a long-distance walker who lives in South Korea, send him a song while the latter was journeying up the Korean coast. That song, Questions was the first in what would be 10 songs the duo recorded for their first album, Preverts, completed in early November, 2012. The album contains songs in a variety of styles from within the rock'n'roll and underground rock spectrums, with an emphasis on the raw, energetic flourishes of punk and garage.
Their DIY recording process, though unconventional, has proved productive, the goal being to capture the rawness and power of garage rock despite the limitations of geography. Most songs begin with Fraser outlining the song via his iPhone Voice Memo. In Sydney, the song takes shape in Young's home studio; after an exchange of ideas and prototypes via email, vocals are recorded on Fraser's phone and added to the mix in Sydney. On average a song is completed in 1-2 weeks.
Young and Fraser released their first single, Preversions, covers of two 1978 punk/power pop tunes Saturday Night Hitchhiker by The Pop & Tired of Waking Up Tired by The Diodes on December 1, 2012. Other plans include the follow-up to the Preverts LP, due in 2013, and a 4-track EP . Read more on Last.fm.
