There are two artist with this name:
(1) Popstitute is the alter-ego of Dany Salvatierra, a multimedia artist from Lima, Peru, embarqued on a musical project leaded by himself, mostly consisting on electronic based tunes with influences of eighties synthpop and spanish indie/clash pop.
He started his own adventure in 2006, as the lead vocalist of the synth act PLAYBOTS, with whom he scored a modest internet hit, "Yo no soy tu ángel", a cover originally from Christina y los Subterráneos, which was featured on a international album tribute for famous spanish artist Christina Rosenvinge, distributed worldwide in Peru, Mexico and Spain.
In 2007, putting PLAYBOTS on the side, he started composing and playing his own music and lyrics, with arrangings and collaborations by different suburban electronic programmers and artists such as Eniac 51 (another former PLAYBOTS member), Fad 21 and Autobahn 303.
He also replaced the lead vocalist of Pestaña, an independent parodic pop band also from Lima, during a single concert where the front-man was unable to perform. This was Popstitute's authentic debut on a live concert.
As in May 2007, he's preparing material for his upcoming first EP, which will feature yet another version (he describes it as a 're-interpretation') of the famous "Yo no soy tu ángel" cover song, plus new tracks containing gay-oriented lyrics.
(2) Popstitute evokes a mellow yet profoundly obscure vision of pop, born in the mountains of Medellín, Colombia. It stands for a dance-oriented sound rich in potent drum patterns, infectious bass lines, cosmic retro-futurist pads and synthetic-melodic keyboards that contrast an inherent darkness of a bunch of introspective stories revealed by heartbreaking vocals.
In this project, the efforts of Daniel Obregón (Astronaut) and Daniel Mecklar (Zygomatik) converge to propitiate sonorous atmospheres that inspire sensory journeys through memorable instants of electronic pop at its purest. In contemporary culture, pop is redeemed by vanishing limits between mainstream and indie. Popstitute is just pop as a satiric way of understanding music beyond genres. If Pop defines every cultural expression, then it no longer defines anything at all. Read more on Last.fm.
