Philippe Bernold has been described by Naxos, the world's leading classical music label, as "one of the most brilliant representatives of the French school of flute". Born in 1960, Bernold studied with Alain Marion at the Paris Conservatoire, obtaining his first prize in 1982. Since then, he has performed as soloist and alongside internationally renowned artists such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Marielle Nordmann and Maurice André, and has performed with numerous important ensembles including the Orchestre de Paris, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra (Budapest), the Hallé Orchestra (Manchester), the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon. In 1987, Bernold was the first prize winner of the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition, and in 1989 he won the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros for his recording of Claude Debussy’s Sonate No.2 for flute, viola and harp. He currently combines his busy international career with teaching activities at the Lyon Conservatoire (taking over the flute class taught by Maxence Larrieu), at the Nice International Summer Academy and in Kyoto (Japan), as well as at numerous master-classes in different countries. Read more on Last.fm.
