Petrichoir is the new project by veteran producer, Jonathan Canupp (Ten and Tracer, Les Freres Courvoisier/Les Freres Royales, Waterstrider, ROTSTAT).
At twenty years old, doctors told me I ‘wouldn’t make it to thirty’. Now, at thirty-one (31), I’m glad to have proven them wrong.
When listening to “Twineman”, it’s probably hard to believe that conceptually (and practically), it comes from illness/sickness and vulnerability. Unfortunately, every aspect of my life has been affected by disease - and my experience has led me to perceive myself as fragile. The slightest tug at my strings can cause me to unravel and fall apart.
In my relatively short life, I have nearly died a dozen times, and have ‘died’ and been resuscitated once. This has had a profound impact on me and my perception of myself. It is not easy to feel terrible almost every day - it takes endless energy and psychological trickery to combat the sense of defeat that threatens to undermine my ability to continue living a productive and worthwhile existence. It is through creativity that I achieve much of my joy - and through which I find reason to continue living. I am able to experience happiness, to be sure. Through the creative process, I am liberated from my pain and sickness. But, often I find myself incapable of overcoming the obstacles which I face. There are weeks and months that disappear into hospital visits and medications. Entire seasons are lost.
Somehow, I convince myself that things will improve and I fantasize about feeling well enough to create and be satisfied. Sure enough, the time comes again when I do create and feel purpose. I reap the rewards, however fleeting. This album is comprised of such moments when I catch a glimpse of a life worth living. It is my expression of joy and gratitude for life - despite my circumstances. Read more on Last.fm.
