Penfold is an American emo band formed in Livingston, New Jersey in 1994. The natural course of live performances soon ensued and the band began to build a small following. The band's first release was a 7" entitled "Your Eyes Have All The Answers" in 1997. The band also released a limited cassette demo that included the songs from the 7" and an extra one the same year. They followed up with their debut, 1999's "Amateurs and Professionals". Their second album and last release, "Our First Taste of Escape", came in 2001. After playing hundreds of live shows, in March of 2003, Penfold chose to break up as one of the members was going off to college and the band didn't want to go on in the same way without him. Their final show in their original time together took place in Old Bridge, New Jersey at the M & M Hall on March 22nd. They played two sets lovingly to an audience of old and new friends from all over the world. Following the band's break-up, the three members started a band called the moirai. They released an EP called "Bury Yourself" in 2005 and disbanded soon afterward. On November 12th, 2005, Penfold strolled into a friend’s basement in New Brunswick, New Jersey to play a secret impromptu show to a small unknowing audience (literally, most of the audience didn't know who they were). The band, still close friends, had decided to attempt a reunion but wanted to have a go at a test run to see if they could actually pull it off. The "Elf Pond" show (an anagram of Penfold) was filmed, and can be experienced at http://elfpond.com/. It was also released as a limited DVD. In February of 2006, the band reformed to play a reunion show at the Hamilton Street Cafe in Boundbrook, New Jersey. Since then, they've played shows on and off every couple of years since. In 2023, the band released Final Demos, a single made up of demos the band recorded for a potential third album before they broke up. They also released an alternate version of Sea of Crisis. The next year, the band announced they were remastering and rerecording Our First Taste of Escape.
