Of the Atrium is a solo ambient act formed in 2013 in the heart of downtown Toronto, Ontario by a young and upcoming artist named Simon Austin. Drawing influences from Alternative Rockers Radiohead, Coldplay and Smashing Pumpkins, as well as Ambient and Post-Rock acts such as Tycho, Talk Talk, and Explosions in the Sky, Austin began to develop his own signature sound for this 4-EP project. As a guitarist of 6 years experience with an ambitious yet experimental love for recording software and technology, he found his “niche” with the use of watery harmonized guitar riffs and deep emotional ambience and reverb, with laid-back syncopated drum loops to carry the listener through a truly spiritual musical journey. As a musically expressive young mind, Simon Austin created Of the Atrium as an outlet for his Ambient and Psychedelic musical sensibilities. The whole project began as a concept to create relaxing music fitted to specific seasons, since Austin found that not all music is as relatable during certain times of the year. With this in mind, he began his creative process.
