Numinosum has been on "permanent hiatus" since about 2007; other projects and hard but illuminating concrete life circumstances have hindered the project's progress, but there are plans to start playing again.
Numinosum is
"a free improvisation ensemble, established in 1992 at Kannus, Finland. After travelling for years of development through progressive rock, European free improvisation, Russian and American free jazz, Stockhausen-inspired intuitive music, Gurdjieffian ideas, live electronics, alchemy, noise, zen, minimalism, Cagean aesthetics, philosophy, occultism, musique concreté, carnivalism, personnel changes, name changes, instrument changes, instrument modifications and various unprejudiced experimentations with acoustics, music and sound, the ensemble is finally formed into its unit core, which consists of Jussi Karsikas and Sami Nybacka. Along with the core there is a changing cast of collaborators, who are, as they perform on a recording or a concert of a "transcendental quality", credited as members of the ensemble labeled as Numinosum. If the recording or concert is not of a "transcendental quality", everyone participating is credited using their names. The possible "transcendental quality" of a recording or a concert is decided by the core.
Anyone wishing to play with the core is welcome to get in touch.
Anyone wishing to organize a concert is welcome to get in touch.
Without preparation, without hesitation."
"... Numinosum-band sounded predominantly like the stage was full of broken radio -device and amplifiers: buzzing, whizzing and squeals. The Tornado -festival's subtitle 'Space Cosmo' was definitely Numinosum"
-- from a concert review by Mikko Voutilainen, Keskisuomalainen -magazine 25.1.1999.
