Nathan Marchack was born in Toronto on November 9th, 1986, but was raised and educated on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. In 2003 he matriculated at Stanford University and it was at this point that he became interested in the metal genre. Marchack co-founded Crooked Mile with Robert Negrete and Andrew Blaser in 2004, an entity which remained the sole metal band on campus for 3 years. Despite a general lack of enthusiasm toward their style of music, Crooked Mile won the annual campus Battle Of The Bands competition in 2006. Under the recommendation of a friend Marchack began taking guitar lessons from Jasun Tipton of progressive metal band Zero Hour in the summer of 2006. He subsequently encountered Jon Jang at a class at Stanford, which greatly changed the way he approached composition. These two experiences laid the foundation for his future musical works, separate from his efforts in Crooked Mile. After graduating from Stanford with a B.S. (Hons) in Chemical Engineering in 2007, Marchack enrolled in the Ph.D. program at UCLA's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. In August 2008 he recorded the EP Unforeseen Peril with Bryan Kerr handling mixing and mastering duties. This project was released in November 2008. In May 2009 Marchack and Kerr once again teamed up to record a second project, titled Samsara, which was subsequently released in September 2009. This project had a more varied compositional style than Marchack's first work with greater emphasis on melody. Currently Marchack is working on a collaboration with a drummer and bassist from Poland. The project will comprise 3-4 instrumental songs. After this is concluded he hopes to begin composing for a third record, utilizing the 7-string guitar as his primary instrument.
