Formed in the spring of 2008, Modern Conversation is a mixture of West Coast style with Midwestern charisma. Songwriter and singer David Courtenay migrated to Chicago after playing up and down the California coast as a solo artist. In search of a more vibrant and collaborative music scene, he soon met percussionist Devoney Dean, bassist/guitarist Jeremy Schmidt, and keyboardist Jackie Rada. Blending their influences of rock, folk, reggae and alternative, Modern Conversation has been playing staple Chicago venues like The Cubby Bear, Martyrs', Goose Island, The Store, Subterranean, and Jerry's for the last year and a half.
