Mick McHugh Bio
“The Irish Cat Stevens…” , The Northern Star.
Mick McHugh is an independent contemporary Irish singer-songwriter and a captivating performer who draws in audiences with songs and stories. In his live performances he has the ability to arouse the crowd in with his catchy tunes such as ‘Addicted’, ‘Let’s Dance’ and the ‘Do Do Song’. Conversely he can create a highly emotive atmosphere with moving songs such as ‘Dad’, ‘What is a Man’ and ‘Thank You’.
The title track from his debut EP "A Long Way From Home" was shortlisted in the nationwide Australian Songwriters Association contest in 2008. The CD features top notch musicians who incidentally also recorded on Pete Murray's latest CD.
His follow up CD, “Dad”, was released in conjunction with his performances at the Fatherhood Festival in 2008, where he supported Australian idol winner Damien Leith and Australian icons Jeff Lang and Tex Perkins.
As well as regular gigs, Mick actively participates in community projects. In 2008, he played fund raising gigs for Harmony Day in Byron Bay, Mental Health Acceptance week, The Fire Brigade services, Federal pre-school and the inaugural Green Fest held in Brisbane in October. He has created a new monthly Folk Night in Federal, which donates 10% to community projects. One of Mick's songs is featured on an Irish compilation CD to help raise funds for an orphanage for displaced Tibetan children in Nepal.
Mick delivers his songs with a passion, reminiscent of the Irish Balladeers of old, but with a distinct contemporary flavour of a young man who truly wears his heart on his sleeve.
