Mikkel Bolding aka Messy Shelters practically appeared out of nothing in 2008 and swept Danish reviewers off their feet.
Having heard only a few demos on Myspace, Tigerspring were so impressed, that they immediately signed Bolding´s one-man-project and his debut-EP “Abandonship” appeared in fall 2008 to great reviews. A full-length album is expected in 2010.
Abandonship EP:
Bolding - who produced and plays all the instruments on “Abandonship” - cleverly and effortlessly switches between grandiose indiepop, shoegazer and gloomy folk.
The result is a rich and highly imaginative tapestry, that sounds like a happy marriage between Sufjan Stevens, The Beach Boys, Beck, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Bonnie Prince Billie.
The arrangements are incredibly intricate and detailed, but do not impose themselves; rather the songs enter your brain as perfectly crafted alt. pop-gems and only when you focus on specific elements, you discover an overabundance of sounds and ideas, that keep revealing new elements with every listen.
Upcoming Album:
Where Abandonship is eclectic, light-hearted and exuberant, the upcoming album will be darker, grittier and more minimalistic, with a tight-wound sound based on booming drums, old synths, heavy saxophones and intense, propulsive melodies. Read more on Last.fm.
