Meisha Simon was born on January 6 1984, and was raised on a small farm in Minnesota. She grew up in a very musical family. Her mother, who during her childhood toured with a small band and taught piano, spurred Meishas passion for music. "From the time I was very young my Mom would sing a note and have me sing the same pitch back to her, I fell in love with music" Meisha explains. Meisha started to be involved in music by singing every Sunday in her local church and taking voice lessons. It was during her freshman year of College where she began taking piano lessons, and majored in music, that she realized her gift for writing songs. Meisha explains, "I had been so focused on my voice growing up, that I had not learned how to play music. When I started taking lesson it felt good, I realized I wanted to play music not just sing it. I began to practice all the time, and to writing my own songs as well. I entered College not being able to play piano, and by the end of my second year my piano teacher wanted me to major in it." Meisha left Minnesota her junior year of College and transferred to Visible School: Music and the Worship College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she majored in songwriting. Meishas songs tend to focus on the issues that make a person who they are, subjects from love and pain to the physical and spiritual; and talk about them in a way that people can understand.
