Mark Ross is a guitarist and folk singer-songwriter who is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). He is one of the few performers working today who has experience as a hobo and a cowboy. Mark Ross is a guitarist and folk singer-songwriter who is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). He is one of the few performers working today who has experience as a hobo and a cowboy. He has performed with Utah Phillips, David Bromberg, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, John Hammond, Malvina Reynolds, Jerry Jeff Walker, Steve Goodman, Rosalie Sorrels, Faith Petric, Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry, Dave Van Ronk, Hoyt Axton, Snuffy Jenkins & Pappy Sherrill, Spider John Koerner, and The Rose Tatoo. He claims to kno about 500 songs ranging from traditional american ballads to labor songs to blues/jazz numbers to contemporary folk. His 1996 solo album "Look for Me in Butte" focused on the city of Butte, Montana and its working-class history. His songs have been recorded by Utah Phillips, Tom Perlman, Sawyer Tom Hayden, Jim Ringer, and Horse Sense. Other recordings of his include some tracks on the National Geographic "Songs of the Cowboy" compilation, some tracks on "Rebel Voices" (a 1984 IWW compilation), "Loafer's Glory" (collaboration with Utah Phillips, AND "Tramps Trains and Traditions" with The Rose Tatoo.
