Biography
Majosha was a band formed around early 1988. They played their first gig at Duke University's Battle of the Bands, and after flamboyantly parading around the stage with their up-tempo music and covers of "Play That Funky Music" and "The Roof is on Fire", won first place. Majosha was a band formed around early 1988. They played their first gig at Duke University's Battle of the Bands, and after flamboyantly parading around the stage with their up-tempo music and covers of "Play That Funky Music" and "The Roof is on Fire", won first place. After a stint in bars and frat parties, they produced their own EP Party Night: Five Songs About Jesus. The 4 songs were entitled: "Get That Bug (Outta Your System)," "Kalamazoo," "Cool Whip," and "Where's Bohemia?" The EP sold in a few local stores. After gaining some popularity, they released their first album, Shut Up and Listen to Majosha in 1989. Soon after, the band broke up.
Majosha's main source of continued reknown is the involvement of Ben Folds, who played mostly bass guitar, but also drums and guitar. Following the band's break-up, he went on to form the short-lived "Pots and Pans", but this band soon also broke up. Ben finally met his great success with "Ben Folds Five" which followed. Shut Up and Listen to Majosha includes the songs "Emaline" and "Video", two popular tracks later released by Ben Folds Five on albums Naked Baby Photos and Ben Folds Five, plus "Kalamazoo", which later apeared on Folds' 2004 EP, "Super D".
