The pianist from Rio de Janeiro (where born in May 19,1940 and died in Aug 20, 2001) started playing at nightclubs in the late 50´s and soon joined the bossa nova movement. Vinhas played in the trio Bossa Três with drummer Edison Machado and bassist Tião Neto, recording three albums in 1962, in the United States. In 1968, Vinhas released "O Som Psicodélico de Luiz Carlos Vinhas", his first solo album. From the late 60´s till the early 1970´s, Vinhas played at Bar Flag, in Rio de Janeiro. That venue became famous for its jazz jam sessions and guest appearances by international singers like Sarah Vaughan and Liza Minelli.
