Lorenzo Fago (Naples, 13 August 1704 - Naples , 30 April 1793) was an Italian composer, organist and teacher, eldest son of Francesco Nicola Fago, also a composer and music teacher. Although he was born in Naples to Nicola and Caterina Speranza Grimaldi, he was nicknamed as his father Il Tarantino. After studying at the Conservatory of the Pietà dei Turchini, where his father taught, he became organist of the Chapel of the Treasure of the Cathedral of Naples. On 26 June 1731 Lorenzo Fago succeeded his father in the direction of the chapel of the Neapolitan cathedral. On July 26, 1736 he married Angela Albina Gleinod. In 1737 he was appointed second teacher at the Pietà dei Turchini and first assisted his father until 1740, when he retired from the Conservatory, and thenLeonardo Leo until his death on 1 November 1744. He then became the first teacher of the famous Neapolitan school, a position he held until his retirement in January 1793. He was the author of a remarkable sacred and chamber opera production. Unlike his father, Lorenzo Fago's compositional activity has little importance compared to the didactic one, not to mention that he is limited to a single dramatic composition and a small number of cantatas and sacred works. Among his children we remember Pasquale Fago, who, like his father and grandfather, undertook the activity of composer. Read more on Last.fm.
