Sundays are ritualistic whether or you attend Church or not. Although not every Sunday started with reading hymns, my mother insisted on a weekly clean up. Yet, the buzzing vacuum was masked by music pumping from the speakers. Our home vibrated with the sounds of legendary musicians ranging from Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Maxwell to Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Hendrix and Prince. I sat for hours’ staring at vinyl, running my fingers over the records amazed that sound was stored in it. Sunday was a day of dedication, admiration and inspiration. Soon Sunday’s rituals leaked in to every day of the week. The private duets performed between me and mom on those Sunday afternoons turned into solo performances in front of my parents. It was me centre stage, or the front of my living room, facing a sold out auditorium filled with fans, maybe it was my mother and father stretched out on the sectional, I sang from the bottom of my gut while paparazzi snapped shots of me doing what I did best. I never performed without my plastic blue and white Fisher Price microphone. My mother had a keen eye for my passion in music. When I was 8 years old she brought me to my first concert. I may not have known it then, but watching Tina Turner perform was historical. I have bragging rights… What I did feel at the time was euphoria and pure adrenaline. Tina Turner had captivated me. I knew that the living room in my home was a far from the stage she blessed, but I had to get there. Year passed and my passion for music never faded. I still paid homage to legends, but I grew up in the 90s! Pop was permitted to be played out loud in the house. Rap did not have a pass to be played through the speakers where my mother had blasted Lionel Richie on those Sundays. I loved pop and definitely drew inspiration from the likes of N’ Sync’s Justin Timberlake, The Hanson brothers and The Back Street Boys. But, believe you me, I saved my pennies to purchase a personal walkman so I could hear the latest on the Rap scene. My mother never heard me listening to Puff Daddy’s “No Way Out”, or Mase’s “Harlem World”, but she definitely saw the influence in my music once I started to spit bars. In 2009 I had my first shot at international success with the hit single “Runnin”, teaming up with successful Dj’s (Doman & Gooding). The song went number one in the UK and also gained heavy rotation on MTV Europe beating out moguls Beyonce, Lady Gaga and new comer Kid Cudi for the top spot on the dance charts, earning me my first nominations: JUNO (2010)-Best Dance recording Canadian Radio music awards (2010) – Best Rhythmic/ Hot AC recording After touring the song across Canada, I returned home to start working on my album "TELEPATHY" inspired by great artists before me, I set out to define my own sound by fusing rock, pop and hip-hop. Regardless of who I’m creating the music for, I’m always trying to be innovative. Given my multiple genre channels, I have to be able to clearly distinguish what is for Lincoln and what’s not. With that comes a clearer vision of who I am. Its hard to describe the records on Telepathy with words, so I'll just have to let the music speak for itself. Read more on Last.fm.
