Killed At Camp was a screamy indie rock band that formed among college friends in Wheeling, WV in 1998. Members had been in previous WV bands such as Five Minute Conspiracy, Hawthorne, and Egress. The sound was a disjointed configuration of sounds ranging from early '90's screamo, metal, glam rock, noise, and hardcore. Influences on this band may have included such acts as Harriet the Spy, Fugazi, At The Drive-In, The Party Of Helicopters, T Rex, Lifetime, and Grain.
The band released 2 CD-R's on the band members' lo-fi label, Cole Slaw Recordings. The first CDEP, Bingo Chips for Execution, circulated about 100 handmade copies, and the second release, the full length Eating Cake and Playing, had a handmade pressing of about 200 copies. Both releases were recorded in college dormitories at Wheeling Jesuit University.
Killed At Camp enjoyed a growing local and regional following and played shows with such notable bands as The Dismemberment Plan, Zao, The Movielife, Ann Beretta, Error Type 11, Piebald, New Found Glory, Saves the Day, New Terror Class, The Party of Helicopters, and Kill Your Idols. Undoubtedly, the highpoint of the band's live performance list was an April 2000 appearance with Shaggy in their hometown of Wheeling.
The band hit the road for a completely wretched tour with friends Horns to the Matador in August of 2000. It was on this tour that Killed At Camp played its final show to about 20 people in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Members of Killed At Camp went on to play in bands such as The Minus Tide, Drown Culture, Trial By Fire, The Loved Ones, and COBRA.
The Norfolk, VA cassette label GOEMBESSA has (or has had) plans to release a Killed At Camp discography cassette with both albums remastered and new artwork. A celebratory reunion show to mark the discography's release is not completely out of the question.
