Julean and the Rai is an indie folk band from New York City, founded in 2006 by vocalist and guitarist Julean Rai.
Their first release was "The New York State Demos" EP in June, 2006. Since then, the group has had nine more releases, including three live albums and a fully instrumental album.
Their most recent album is a full length release titled "The War of the Sons of Light against the Sons of Darkness", released on June 17th, 2017.
Julean and the Rai was also a part of the Anti-Folk scene in 2006 and 2007 in New York, performing at the Sidewalk Cafe.
Though the group has its origins in New York City, it was also located for a time in Łódź, Poland, Tijuana, Mexico, San Diego, California, and currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
Julean and the Rai is primarily centered around Singer Songwriter Julean Rai, so the lineup of the band has changed greatly over time and depending on their location, with lineups unique to that city or country. Typically, the band is a traditional three or four piece rock outfit.
The early version of the band's name was "AXiS" from 1995 to 2002, which transitioned to a solo act with Julean Rai (then Julian Rai) in 2002, and then eventually to Julean and the Rai in 2006. Read more on Last.fm.
