Biography:
Formation and early years (2016–2019)
Joker Out is the first young band to gain nationwide popularity in Slovenia in the last decade. They formed in Ljubljana in 2016. Their first single Kot srce, ki kri poganja came out in November 2016 with a music video soon after. In June 2017 they won the Špil league, a competition for student acts, and released Omamljeno telo the same year. They played numerous local festivals and gigs in Slovenia while building their early following.
Debut album and breakout (2020–2021)
Between 2019 and 2021 the band steadily released singles such as Gola (2019), Vem da greš (2020), Umazane misli (2020) and A sem ti povedal (2021). Umazane misli was voted Best New Slovene Song of the Year at the Frišno/Fresh festival in October 2021. Their first full album Umazane misli launched on 18 October 2021. It got strong national radio play and pushed them into bigger local venues, including two sold-out shows at Cvetličarna in Ljubljana. During this period they won Zlata piščal (Golden Flute) awards for Newcomers of the Year in 2020 and Artists of the Year in 2021.
Second album Demoni and lineup changes (2022)
On 31 August 2022 Joker Out released their second studio album Demoni. It included lead singles like Katrina and later Demoni, the band’s first Serbian-language track directed at the former Yugoslav market. They held an album launch concert on 9 September 2022 at the Križanke outdoor theatre in Ljubljana. In October 2022 bassist Martin Jurkovič left to study abroad and was replaced by Nace Jordan.
Eurovision Song Contest 2023
On 8 December 2022 RTV Slovenija selected Joker Out to represent Slovenia at Eurovision 2023. Their entry Carpe Diem was released on 4 February 2023 and performed entirely in Slovene. It qualified from the second semi-final and finished 21st in the Grand Final. Carpe Diem became the most-streamed Slovene-language song in history with over 10 million streams within three months of release. As part of the promotional campaign they played at pre-parties in Barcelona, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Madrid, Amsterdam and London.
Post-Eurovision touring and international breakthrough (2023)
After Eurovision Joker Out announced a wide European tour. They played across the Balkans (Croatia and Serbia), Ireland and the United Kingdom, followed by Nordic dates in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Several shows in Zagreb, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Warsaw and others sold out quickly. They also embarked on a UK tour with Ireland’s Wild Youth, including sold-out shows in Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and London. Their home-country highlight was a sold-out concert at Arena Stožice in Ljubljana on 6 October 2023, with more than 12 000 fans. They also released the single Sunny Side Of London in September that year.
The year 2023 has been set apart as a year of live performances for Joker Out. The group embarked on their inaugural tour across the United Kingdom, captivating audiences and selling out a series of shows in Nordic countries where they ignited a frenzy, particularly in Finland. Their double concerts in cities like Zagreb, Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Warsaw were snapped up within hours. Similar enthusiasm greeted their performances in Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Munich, Wroclaw, Vilnius, Rijeka, and, notably, Varaždin, where a crowd of 10,000 joined in chorus to their greatest hits such as "Umazane misli" , "Novi val", "Tokio," "Ngvot," "Vem da greš," "Ona," "Plastika", and "Demoni".
Live album/Arena Stožice concert
The Arena Stožice show was recorded and released as their first live album Live from Arena Stožice on 22 December 2023, featuring a 23-track setlist spanning their career up to that point.
Third studio album Souvenir Pop and 2024–2025 activity
In November 2024 Joker Out released their third studio album Souvenir Pop. Alongside new material, the album contains Carpe Diem and other recent singles like Bluza and Everybody’s Waiting. They supported the album with tours through Europe, including a 2025 autumn run with headline dates in Paris, London, and Vienna. In late 2025 they released the single Supersonic with an accompanying music video.
Upcoming 10th anniversary events (2026)
To mark ten years since their formation, Joker Out announced a major open-air festival called Karneval set for 20 June 2026 at Ljubljana’s Kardeljeva ploščad. Tickets went on early sale well before the event.
They are signed to SHAGADELIC RECORDS, their own label.
