Born in Nablus, Palestine, Jameel (or Jamil) Sayeh (or Al-Sayah, Al-Sayih) is an oud player, singer and songwriter who has brought a lot to the Palestinian music scene. Recognized nationally, Jameel Sayeh is also a real talent scout, and a specialist in Palestinian song. Jameel began his artistic career in the 1970s, with engaging songs generally revolving around the theme of freedom. He founded the Al-Rahalah group in 1980, with which he toured through Palestine. In 1983, at Birzeit University where he taught music, he formed the group Al-Zaytoun (the olive tree). He can be found in many theatrical creations, as a composer, musician and singer, in particular with the director George Ibrahim at the Al-Kasaba Theater in Ramallah (Noces de Sang, by Garcia Lorca, 2006, Les Habits Neufs de l'Empereur, according to Andersen, in 2007…), but also with Hatem Dajani and Mohamed Bakri (Palestine), Najeeb Ghalal (Morocco), Rufis Norees (London), Eric Helsed (Norway). He also collaborates on film scores, notably for directors Rasheed Mashharaxi, George Khalifa, Yusuf Aldeek. His compositions are often taken over by other artists. Finally, he runs singing workshops to provide psychological help to children in villages and camps in Nablus, Ramallah, Hebron. In concert or at the theater, he has performed in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, France, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, London and Singapore.
