Impromp2 was formed in 1993 when Johnny Britt, originally a solo artist, decided he wanted to meld his smoky jazz trumpet and romantic soul singing with a like minded rapper. Wanting to do his own thing, he came up with the idea for Impromp2 then auditioned nearly 50 guys before finding the perfect partner in Sean Thomas. Impromp2 was among the first acts signed to Motown Records’ subsidiary MoJazz Records. They released their first album, You’re Gonna Love It, in 1995, capturing the urban radio world’s attention with their unique group make-up and musicality. The album was produced by Scotland’s Steve Harvey, a master of smooth groove who would prove to be a key element in the polishing of the Impromp2 sound.
